Morrison’s Mi Futuro program serves Unaccompanied Children (UC) in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
Mi Futuro opened in 2014, serving 17 kids. Now in its 10th year, Mi Futuro has successfully reunified 1500 children with a family member or sponsor. The program has served kids from over 18 countries across the world, with more than 30 languages spoken.
There have been numerous changes in ORR policy throughout the 10 years of Mi Futuro’s existence, however the commitment to serving youth and ensuring they have the staff, support, and resources to successfully reunify children with their families has held firm. A dedicated team ensures the children are well cared for and also prepared for sponsorship and immigrant proceedings.
The goal for Mi Futuro has always been “a safe and timely reunification because we know the children are better off with their family members and sponsors” said Alina Maldonado, Mi Futuro’s Division Director.
