We all go through times in our life when we struggle. Today’s youth face the same challenges as adults and, in many cases, are unable to communicate what is wrong. We may think they are simply going through a phase and it’s easy to miss the signs that something more serious is happening.

According to a recent National Research Council and Institute of Medicine report, as many as one out of five children experience a mental health disorder in a given year. Because the severity of mental illness can increase over time if left untreated, early treatment is essential. Once treatment is sought, learning coping skills can produce results that last a lifetime. Studies show that most children with mental health challenges get better and many recover completely.
